A Meeting Of The Book Clubs
Last weekend was a big one in terms of book club meetings. We met up with another book club, held it another state and zumba may have been involved.
But first, a few of us headed to Narragansett Beach for a little pre-book club meet-up.

According to native Rhode Islanders, this is the beach to “see and be seen.” We had a lot of fun and I learned that my body surfing skills need some serious work.
We headed straight over to Emily’s mom’s house, where our book club meet-up would be held. You see, my book club was meeting up with Emily’s mom’s book club. It was kind of a big deal because we modeled our club after theirs.

The book we discussed was A Visit From The Squad by Jennifer Egan.

Confession: I didn’t finish it. It’s on my Nook and I started it once I got back from the honeymoon. My problem was that I was so exhausted from traveling that every time I tried to read I would fall asleep.
But there was lots of good discussion about the book. There seemed to be a split as to how people felt about it. Only a few outright didn’t like it. Most people were on the fence.
Once the book discussion was over, my book club jumped in the pool. Did you know that Sarah can do flips off the diving board? We were all pretty amazed at her skills. And we all may have done a few group cannonballs into the pool. It was so much fun!

There was also some cornhole and a super cute dog named Fluffy. Fluffy is the same breed as Dexter - a wheaten terrier. Also, Emily’s dad made the cornhole boards. He was really proud of his paintings on them. So cute.

Oh yeah! There was also a zumba class in the midst of all of this fun. Fatima (member of Emily’s mom’s book club) is a zumba instructor and she led a class for us. It was a lot of fun and really hard! The backs of my thighs were sore for a couple of days afterwards.

All in all - it was such an incredible day. Beach, book club, cannon balls, zumba and the best company a person could ask for. Emily’s mom also fed us so much food. Lunch, dinner and then dessert. And there were some pretty delicious margaritas too.
Next month’s book club is a big one. It’s our one year anniversary. We’re reading The Fallback Plan by Leigh Stein and I’m hosting. I can’t wait!
