Morning Walks

Most mornings Dexter and I walk around Fresh Pond Reservation. We both just love it. Dexter gets to run around off leash and I get to walk among some of the most beautiful land in the area.
Fresh Pond is actually Cambridge’s drinking water supply. There’s a big fence around it to help ensure that dogs and other animals don’t go swimming in it. But that hasn’t stopped some people from sneaking in to go fishing. One winter when the pond was frozen over, we saw a coyote running around on the pond. Yes - a coyote! There’s so much animal life at Fresh Pond. We’ve also seen squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, raccoons, geese, swans and the bird life there is incredible. I’m not a birder, but tons of them come out to Fresh Pond to get their fill.
Speaking of birds, Dexter thought he’d try out being a hunter yesterday afternoon. There’s a smaller pond - Little Fresh Pond - that dogs are allowed to go swimming in - and that people can ice skate on in the winter - where geese like to hang out. Dexter and I were walking past the end of it when all of sudden he darts down a hill and into the edge of the water scaring about a dozen geese. The geese were all flapping their wings and squawking like crazy. And there Dexter is swimming after them. It was the funniest thing I’d seen Dexter do in a long time. And just so you know, he didn’t actually reach any of the geese. He turned around and came with me after calling him back a few times.
