My Life Lately According To Instagram
My pretty pink hyacinth.
Neighborhood art.
Baby bananas! Who knew?
I always forget how much I like this dress.
Dexter convinced me one sunny day to guide our afternoon walk towards the nearest soft serve ice cream.
My cousin, Krissy. So, so pretty.
This face is often the first thing I see in the morning.
Instead of birthday cake, I made Chad chocolate chip cookies. Yum.

Hi! What an exhausting but great weekend. I started off attending a panel of female bloggers that was put on by a writing group I’m a part of. It was amazing and inspiring and I met a lot of really talented female writers. I’ve also been working all weekend, running around from place to place. Oh - and I finally watched The Help. I loved it. So, writing has sort of consumed my...

In Defense Of: Tori Spelling
Tori Spelling. I will forever know her as Donna Martin from the original Beverly Hills 90210 television series. And I will admit that after I stopped watching the show, sometime during its “college years,” I didn’t keep track of what was going on with the actress.
She resurfaced on my celebrity radar when there was the tabloid coverage of the fallout with her mom Candy...
Flashback Friday! Christmas 2001
The first time I lived in Boston was a decade ago. I came here to do City Year, an Americorps program. I opted to stay in town for the holidays and my sister, Alex, came to visit. We had such a fun time exploring the city.
Happy Birthday, Mom!
It is almost impossible to find a picture of my mom smiling. I went through a handful of photo albums before I came across these classic photos of my mom. She has this wonderful naturally curly, red hair. But I honestly don’t remember the last time she wore it curly. Just look at how beautiful she is!
I’m not sure how old these photos are. But if I had to guess, I would say late...

A Meeting Of The Cousins
Facebook is amazing in the respect that it has enabled me to reconnect with family that I haven’t been in touch with in years - mainly cousins. I have lots and lots of them. Between my parents, they have 16 siblings total.
One of my more recent cousin connections resulted in us actually meeting up when she was in town last week. Krissy, a band teacher and photographer in Virginia, got in...
Happy Birthday, Chad!
It is your birthday, right? Just kidding. Chad likes to give me a hard time because it took me forever to remember his birthday. In my defense, I have four other family members with birthdays within four days of his. So, I kept on getting all of the different birthday dates confused. I finally got it straight after a few years.
2003 - We made things official the summer of that year.
2004 -...

After The Rain
It pretty much rained for 24 hours straight and when it finally stopped, Dexter and I ventured out for an afternoon walk. Fresh Pond Reservation is always so pretty after it rains - leaves blown everywhere, puddles galore and I just love how it smells. Don’t get me wrong, I love sunny 70 degree days. But I’m a sucker for drizzly, overcast and smells like it just rained weather.

Book Club Goes Crazy For Wild
Our most recent book club selection was Wild - From Lost To Found On The Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed.
I can confidently say that it was everyone’s favorite book club pick so far in our short history of meeting. It was amazing.
Wild is a memoir that follows one woman’s journey of repairing her life that fell apart in so many ways after the death of her mother. Strayed...

Guess what? I ordered a wedding veil this weekend! *Squeal* I decided a while ago that I wanted a Juliet Cap style veil, but I was having trouble finding something that didn’t look too old fashioned or matronly. But this weekend I stumbled upon this woman in Oregon who makes exactly what I’m looking for. I am so thrilled.
Here are some of my favorite things from the web this past...

In Defense Of: Saying F*@# That To Bridal Diets!
As my wedding date keeps inching closer, I am constantly reminded of things I need to do. Some of them are self reminders, like figuring out table decorations and making sure I don’t miss scheduled payments. Others come from the multiple emails I receive daily from wedding websites, like telling me I need to start saving up for a down payment for a house (yes, that really happened!) and...
Flashback Friday! Twins Edition
This weekend my sisters, Kendall and Kaitlyn, turn 15. It’s so hard to believe what young ladies they’ve become. So, I thought I would dedicate this Flashback Friday to them. I’ve dug through all the scanned pictures I have and have picked out a few gems. Well, a lot of gems. I hope you like seeing them as much as I do.
Happy Birthday!!!

Being Quirky With Zooey Deschanel
One of my favorite Saturday Night Live skits is Being Quirky With Zooey Deschanel. They are just the best. I love Zooey Deschanel. Well, except for her New Girl show - which I kind of think is actually the worst.
This first video actually features Zooey Deschanel (as Mary Kate Olsen).
This is the most recent skit. I think there’s only been two.
Do you love them too? Say yes. I know...
Celebrating Sarah
Sarah and I have been buddies for the last decade. It always sounds so crazy when I think about how long we’ve been friends.
Next month, Sarah is getting married! To this great guy. Last weekend, her super sweet sister-in-law Liz hosted a bridal shower/bachelorette party for Sarah.
There was lots of drinking. I mean … LOTS.
But we also had tons of yummy food too.
Games were...

I Don't Get It: Fancy Brows
Every season there seems to be a new, crazy beauty trend to try. Last month, Chanel debuted its version of eyebrow art on the runway.
And some people just went gaga over it - The Man Repeller being one of them. Me, I just don’t get it.
I mean, I can see wearing something like this as part of an elaborate costume - say as Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games. But as an everyday, or even...

A Big Fat Wedding Update
Last week was a big one for wedding planning. I mailed out the wedding invitations!
Which also means that I finally finished the wedding registries and put them up on the wedding website. I was warned that putting together a registry would take a considerable amount of time, but man - I had no idea how many hours and hours it would take.
I also picked up some flats to slip into during the...

Hello all! Did you know that tomorrow is a holiday in Massachusetts? It’s Patriots’ Day, or as some people like to call it, Marathon Monday. Every year, in addition to the Boston Marathon (which is always on Patriots’ Day), there are tons of events held throughout the area that relive different historical events from the American Revolution. And I’m lucky enough that I...

In Defense Of: The Pioneer Woman
I know. Why write a blog post defending one of the most beloved bloggers ever? Well, in the last year or so I’ve seen an increasing amount of “haters” online. While I don’t know Ree personally, I’ve been a follower of her blog for a few years and felt like I should say a few things.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with The Pioneer Woman blog, it’s...
Flashback Friday! Odds & Ends
I don’t have a specific theme for this Flashback Friday post. I got to the end of one of my photo albums and just found a wide variety of pictures from different times of my life.
This is a few weeks before I left for college. Mom went with me to a scholarship ceremony.
I’m dancing with my roommate, Carolyn, from Governor’s School - the summer I turned 16.
Karl...

Working Out The Kinks
I recently read a memoir by one of my favorite writers, Elizabeth Weil, about her marriage improvement project. The timing of me reading this book - No Cheating. No Dying. I Had A Good Marriage. Then I Tried To Make It Better. - was kind of perfect.
In planning a wedding, you get asked a lot of questions. What do the bridesmaids dresses look like? Where are you having the rehearsal dinner? Are...

Woolapalooza
A couple of weekends ago I was sent to cover an annual festival called Woolapalooza for a local newspaper. I was so glad to get this assignment because it’s an event I’ve been meaning to go to for the last few years. I had a blast even though it was overcast and drizzly out.

The Katniss Braid
I finally went to see The Hunger Games movie last week! I loved it. Did you? And I don’t care what any of those haters say - I loved Jennifer Lawrence at Katniss.
I decided that I would be a bit of a fan girl when I went to see the movie. So, I gave myself a Katniss braid.
It’s a dutch braid that starts near your left temple and continues diagonally around your head until you have...

Happy Easter! Easter is Chad’s favorite holiday as far as candy goes, so I try to make him a basket every year filled with all of his faves - Peeps, of course, are numero uno for him. I hope everyone has lots of fun things to snack on today. I plan on stuffing myself with all of the Starbust Jelly Beans that didn’t make it into the plastic eggs in Chad’s basket.
Here are some...

In Defense Of: Chippendales
Remember when I told you that as part of my friend’s Vegas bachelorette weekend that we went to Chippendales?
Well, what I didn’t tell you was how much I wasn’t looking forward it. I mean, I was kind of dreading it. When I received the email saying that front row tickets to the Chippendales show had purchased, I just put my head in my hands and thought Oh. My. God....

Prom
I found this article on NPR about a new book that has atypical prom photos from a span of several years. I love the photos I’ve seen and really love the (above) video. I also found another video from what I think is an upcoming documentary that I already can’t wait to see. This video (below) is also worth watching.

Flashback Friday! Woodstock
During the summer of 1999, in July after high school graduation, I ventured with a couple of friends (and a then boyfriend) to Woodstock.
Back in my high school days, I was nuts about going to concerts, whether it was a one-night only performance at the 9:30 Club in D.C. or going to festivals that spanned anywhere from one day to a few.
Left to right: me, Ben, Melissa & Jackie
I wish I...

My Life Lately According To Instagram
Dexter wedged himself between me and the laptop. His not so subtle way of saying Pet me!
Hello there, bearded fiancé.
Loving this nail polish I received in my most recent Birchbox. I felt like a teen disco queen.
Mary Kay outtakes.
My favorite way to wrap a gift - candy wrapper style.
I just love this pupster so freakin much.

A Chance Encounter
When I was flying home from Vegas, I had a layover in San Francisco. I know, why fly west first when you all you want to do is head east? Who knows? Stupid layovers.
Anyways, thank goodness I had that West Coast layover because I ended up running into an old friend.
This is Nelson. He and I worked together one summer a decade ago. Yes - a decade as in 10 years. We worked at a think tank. He...

Annie Hall Fashion Inspiration
Do you have a favorite Woody Allen film? For me, with his older ones, it’s Hannah and Her Sisters. But Annie Hall is a close second. I caught part of it on t.v. over the weekend and rediscovered just how much of a fashion icon Diane Keaton was in the film.
Even though this film came out 35 years ago, I could see someone wearing these exact outfits today.
Here’s an Annie Hall...

The White Tiger - Another Book Club Pick
Book club recently read The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. This one was Heather’s pick and very fitting, I think. Heather recently (within the last few years maybe?) traveled to India.
We met up at Newtowne Grill in Porter Square. We had to spread out between a couple of tables and the bar. Who would’ve thought a restaurant would be busy at 8:30 on a Friday night? A few people...

Heyya! This has been a working weekend for me, but I’m not complaining. Everyone has those now and then. I hope I didn’t overdo it on my multiple Vegas posts. Honestly, I could have written a dozen.
Here a some of my favorite things from the past week:
The photo of this weekly list make me laugh. I should start doing this.
